I just recently realized there are half as many human beings as there are years since the big bang. That is nuts. It took most of the time in universe so far for us to exist, and suddenly we’ve multiplied so much that there’s one of us for every two years of the known universe’s lifespan, like we had to make up for lost time. I can’t even handle how remarkable that is.

Hey babies. Silver Sprocket head nerds (Ferin, Ion, Avi, Adam) are going to San Diego commie-con July 17th through 21st and its gonna get spicy. We are sharing a table with our mega-crushes Poseur Ink and when not stationed there we will be running around with backpacks full of stuff to trade and give away and if we dont forget (we will forget) will be using this tumblr to yell stuff at you about what weird shit some out of touch corporation is doing to capitalize on con and how we plan on ruining it in our own lovable shit-lord fashion, where to meet us for imporptu hood-of-a-hummer-with-yet-another-Dexter-ad/dealer floor/hotel lobby shows, and why you should be our friend. (you shouldn’t, we are mean con drunx)Organizing a contingent of anarcho-nerds to con it up with is a big dream of ours. The cross section is narrow between geek and radical and sometimes it is the only place we feel comfortable and if you feel similar than we want you on our team.
This is the first time I saw or heard anyone aside from myself talk about Poseur Ink. I talked about it because You Ain’t No Dancer was really good (especially vol. 3), but nobody cared. Some people care, though. I like the idea of anarcho-nerds overthrowing corporate control of nerd stuff. Some corporate nerd stuff is cool, but isn’t being involved with our interests as a community even cooler? Support indie stuff, okay?

Fascinated by human folly, Vonn Sumner creates characters that appear somewhere between heroic and farcical in his paintings. These lonely figures border on ridiculousness with their ragtag costumes and armor made from trash and discarded objects. We find them solitary, frozen in attempts at knightly poses or looking downcast in disappointment at their own failures. Their gestures recall famous literary characters — such as Don Quijote — blinded by their own bravado to the point of madness. Sumner will open a solo show titled “Somewhere Else” at Los Angeles’ Merry Karnowsky Gallery this Saturday, May 18.
